CHARMAINE NEVILLE BAND GUEST BOOK Thank
you for visiting our pages. Charmaine, when Connie and I met you in 1999 in New Orleans we were absolutely blown away. We still talk about you and play your CDs often, and I will never forget the hug you gave me after the show. After reading your flood story just now, I wish I could give you a hug. You are blessed in many ways. Peace, my friend. Pat Morris <morris@eastlink.ca> Bridgewater, Nova Scotia Canada - Sun Aug 26 18:39:03 2007 Charmaine, I was with my family on an afternoon Blues Cruise at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, OR, early in July. What a treat to see you! My daughter Marian, who is 11, loves your music too. You were kind enough to let her have her picture taken with you - I think it was a highlight of our trip! Hope you'll make it to Victoria BC sometime soon. Your music brings us so much joy! love, Annie Annie <anniebowers@shaw.ca> Victoria, British Columbia Canada - Thu Aug 9 14:14:00 2007 Charmaine, it was so great to meet you Masperos last week when we came down to help a survivor friend. Phil and I, and Joe and Rose (she's the one who caught the beer behind her back) couldn't wait to check out your site and we are all very impressed. We'll be back in a few months to hopefully start to help Antoinette rebuild and will touch base before we come to be sure you're still cooking fishfries. You are a truly remarkable woman who made a huge impact on all of us. God bless. When you said that you drove a long while, did you come through Vacherie, LA via hwy 3127? If so, I was one of the EMT's who helped you. I didn't know who you were, but what you asked me and told me has stuck in my mind ever since. I'm very happy to see that you are O.K. I hope that the others on that bus made it also. I'll never forget the sight of passing out all of the food that my partner and I had stocked for ourselves to everyone on the bus. Seeing the unselfishness with the food that was shown among all of the occupants really touched me deeply. I would like to know how everyone on that bus fared, especially the children. I truly hope and pray that all are safe and sound. MJ MJ <snipe6@msn.com> Rochester, NY USA - Sun Jan 22 12:13:39 2006 Charmaine, I have been a life long fan of The Meters, and the Neville Brothers but not heard your amazing material until searching the other day for a tune (Iko Iko) on I Tunes. When I heard your version I flipped. I can't stop listening to your "Queen of the Mardi Gras" CD and I can't wait until I can go back to New Orleans and get my musical fix. I am a drummer in Nashville but I teach school to keep the bills paid for now. I appreciate this album and can't wait to listen more! Was this particular album done with more than one drummer or did your drummer lay multiple tracks? What else can I check out that captures the essence of the second line feel like this one does. I have in my collection some Dr. John, Professor Longhair, all of The Meters CD's I could buy and The Neville Bro's 2 CD Collection as well as "Live on Planet Earth". Thanks for the music! My wife and I also saw you at the Mardis Gras party in Hollywood Florida. We were horified to see what you went through after Hurricane Katrina. My twin boys and I took a truckload of supplies up to Biloxi and Ocean Springs the week after the hurricane. Now, we are dealing with Wilma here at home. I keep telling everyone that compared to what you guys went through, this lack of gas, water, power, and more is no more than an inconvienience! We hope that you are doing better. Please let us know if and when you have plans to be here in South Florida! Good luck. Esther & Marc S. Tanner Parkland, Florida Marc S. I was the lucky guy sat at the side of the stage with my fiancee. You sat next to me waiting to go on for your last set, what a cool 45th birthday present! I've been a major fan of the Neville Brothers since I first heard 'Tell It Like It is' all those years ago, now I've had the chance to see you in action I'm a total fan of the Neville Family. You have a fantastic stage presence and what an awesome impression of Louis Armstrong, I've tried it many times and ended up nearly barfing or wretching my heart up.. Dont let the bastards get you down All our love Corinne and Yason terry yason <bluesboy47@aol.com> london, England - Thu Nov 24 13:01:31 2005 Charmaine, I live in England and I have just watched you on our "Heaven and Earth" show. You touched my heart. Your soul is a good soul, as witnessed by your actions during Katrina. What you call the 'guilt' which you feel for those you could not help is the pain your soul feels at having had to deny its compassion, because, practically, there were only so many people you COULD help. These practicalities, though, do not mean that you could escape the pain and suffering your soul feels for these people. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE explore EFT as a means of healing this pain you carry. You can find out all you need to know about it on www.emofree.com. I know that it is being used in some of the refugee centres which have been set up. PLEASE find out more. God bless you, Charmaine. This world is wicked. There is no excuse for what those men did. God is a just God. He had you in His hands. You were saved, although you had to endure horrors, which noone should have to endure. I am thankful for the selfless acts you showed to people. I have been praying for you and I pray that the horrors you suffered will not change the strength of your spirit. It gives me comfort to read others entries and to see that you are loved and not alone. I don't know where you stand in your faith, but God saved you for a purpose and I know you will persevere and make it through. I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds your future. Pat Sharpe <Sharpetactics@sbcglobal.com> St. Louis, MO USA - Fri Sep 30 22:45:35 2005 Charmiane, My wife, Doreen, and I want you to know that our prayers are with you. Your performance in Portland, Sunday, Sept 25th. Is testimony of the strength and faith you have and instill in others around you. Your are wonderful. We were able to see you at Snug Harbor just before the Blues Fest here a few years ago. You came to Portland for the festival and we connected by phone but could not make the time for a good bar-b-que at the house here in Battle Ground. The offer is still there to have you out for that good meal of the grill. Reggie has the picture we took of you and him at Snug Harbor posted on his website and I hope to get one to you also. Please give us a call if you have the time this trip to get together. Father Alex Roque, OMI Father Alex Roque, OMI <alejandroomi@aol.com> Miramar, FL USA - Sun Sep 25 18:58:08 2005 Charmaine, My husband and our best friends were in New Orleans in December 2004 and for two weeks for Jazzfest in 2005. We fell in Love with you and also saw you and your band at Snug Harbor. We have been worried about you, yours and Snug Harbor, we saw what has happened to our favorite town and cried. Now that I have read your news I am just sick. Please know that all of you are in my prayers and know without a doubt that a new beginning will be within reach soon. the emotions from the tradgedy and terror may change music and the outlook to it in many ways. After the grieving the change and growth can inspire blessings. Take care and we look forward to returning and seeing you soon. Lynn Peterson <plynnpeterson@sbcglobal.net> Yorba Linda, CA USA - Sun Sep 25 18:56:06 2005 Baby Girl, you are my heart, my sister and your well being is important to me. I call upon Obatala to sit with you in wisdom, oshun to bring sweetness into your life, Chango to clear the path of obstacles and yemenja to embrace and protect you from earthly harm. As you walk on the shoulders of the ancestors, know that you are safe and your blessings are yet to come. With that I dedicated to you the following. I AIN'T CRYING NO MORE I look out into the world searhing for a piece of me trying to understnd how intrusive obstacles fit into the scheme of things, tenaciously bucking up against the full weight of trying to close the broken circle. The thought of I ain't crying no more sits at the bottom rising like a light throughout the kingdom within. With noble intentions the mental images rid the soul of emptiness as the creator becomes the central figure of my life. Along the way my journey is undaunted by the wicked whispers that fall off the tongue of others, the icy stares, the unassisted, and the merciless suffering though no fault of my own. Except I tend to empower others, forefeit my blessings, always bringing up the rear, comprising to the fault of internal victimization. Despite what one has learned, I can't help but to hate my life and myself at times. Often the scream is as useless as an education, as pointless as determination, for I am invisible, unwanted, unseen and unheard. But I am comforted because I ain't crying no more. As the seeds of dream spiral into an abyss of hopelessness and despair, somehow I still manage to care and muster an ounce of humanity towards my earthly siblings. The self-doubt is discarded like old news and the inside rage that keep us beholden to the painful well kept family secerts is no longer my burden to bear. Struggling against the circumstances that transform the incomplete life, and braving to dwell in the valley of sprouted memories that give birth to harmonious times, the speed of victories run rapid in mine mind. I exit the place of gated communities and pad locked doors to claim fame and peace in the galaxy once ridden before. I move with the stars and yeild to embrace my spirit becaus the agreement is made that I AIN'T CRYING NO MORE! Robin White <robin_white@nps.gov> cincinnati, Ohio USA - Sun Sep 25 18:54:46 2005 Dear Charmaine, I lived in New Orleans for nearly nine years, and had the pleasure of hearing you perform several times. At Children's Hospital, at Jazz Fest - whenever it was possible I brought my little girl along to see and hear you, as I felt you were a such terrific role model. Anyway, you've been my hero for many, many years, and I just wanted to let you know how sad I was to hear what a hard time you've had - but also how relieved I was to hear you made it through the storm. Your strength and generosity towards others under such horrible conditions is both inspiring and humbling. Thanks for being such a great lady... Love, veronica Veronica Piastuch <soulpainter953@yahoo.com> Albuquerque, NM USA - Mon Sep 19 5:23:36 2005 Charmaine: I just found out what happened to you after Hurricaine Katrina. Oh, Charmaine, I cried. I feel like you are friend. We come see you everytime we are in New Orleans. We were there at the beginning of August when your grandson played on stage with you and we brought my niece Maria for her first trip that city we love so much. You called a bunch of women on stage. My friend Ruth was one - the big white girl with no rythmn what so ever! She wanted me to tell you that you are truly welcome at our house anytime. We'll cook, you sing. We are praying for you Charmaine, and for the entire city, and for the whole Gulf Coast. Can't wait to see you again. Please let us know if there is any way we can help the musicians of New Orleans - a special fund or anything. We are doing other things, too, but this is the soul of the city. Love and friendship. Diana, Ruth and Maria, Rockport, Texas Diana, Rut and Maria <diana_kirby@hotmail.com> Rockport, TX USA - Mon Sep 19 5:22:31 2005 Charmaine, What a great faith our heavenly father Yahweh must have given you to survive everything, everything, everything Hurricane Katrina and the levee break brought your way. Only he could have given you you the strength to endured so much to save so many. Do not forget that faith as you face the hardships in the days to come. That faith is stronger than the evil of this life because it's from above and can overcome everything in this life. As the Bible says it can surely move moutains. I'm convince that neither wind, nor rain, nor wave, nor hatred, nor violence nor negligent can remove us from the love and care of the father. In my own life I have found peace in great times of stress knowing that I do not have to perform miricles only become as small as a mouse so he can become large as a lion. With that in mind when I'm stressed and can't sleep I often ask myself what reason would a mouse have to stress about the thing I'm stressing about? The answers is always the same No Reason. I then sleep peacefully. I'm praying for you and your whole family. Please pray for me and mine as many of mine lived in Louisiana and are in the process of recovering as well. Have a great and good day, Mark Mark in Texas <mark@ev1.net> houston, TX USA - Mon Sep 19 5:21:05 2005 I am from Louisiana and I love all things Neville, including you. I cried when I watched Aaron sing "Louisiana" at the recent NBC fundraiser, and I cried when I read about you. I just bought all your CDs. I have donated to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity, after cleaning out my pantry and closets for people who were left with nothing. Tell me what else I can do to help and I promise I will try. You ARE loved! Marsha M. Heinsohn <marsha880@aol.com> Austin, TX USA - Mon Sep 19 5:15:43 2005 Charmaine, You are such a strong and beautiful woman. A true hero and a messenger of truth. Thank you for telling your story on camera. "When written in Chinese, the word `crisis' is composed of two characters; one represents danger and the other represents opportunity." You were birthed into the collective mainstream culture from your beautiful womblike New Orleans, and now you have the oppurtunity to heal the masses with your music. Mainstream American culture, as well as all the victims of hurricane Katrina, needs so much what you have to offer, which is spiritually healing, soulful music. Please know that there is a reason for this disaster and that you and your family play a very important part in the healing of the people. I am so glad that you are all right and that you are now able to help heal a society that is so desperately in need of rhythmic music which heals the soul, enlivens the spirit, and helps people connect to what is important in life. And be assured that N! ew Orleans will recover from this traumatic birth experience just as you are. Until you can return, make healing music wherever you can and as much as you can. Be the modern day shaman you were born to be. You certainly have been initiated. Needless to say, I was emotionally touched by your courage and heroism with you stepping out on faith putting your own life in danger to save others. I feel that you already know God is good ALL the time and sometimes he has to shake us up and allow sorrow and pain b/c that seperates us from wordly cares and basically gets our attention. I empathize and sympathize with everyone that has been affected and my prayers and thoughts are definitely with you all. I've never heard of your band before but I see you guys get a lot of "rave reviews". May God continue to move inside of you and use you as a light to touch others around you. I am a white male American and I see just exactly what you are speaking about with regard to race. It absolutely appalls me that this nation treats human beings the way that they do. I hope that YOU and ALL of your family have come through this horrible tragedy with your lives. Tom Landon <tomlandon@verizon.com> Tampa, FL USA - Fri Sep 9 18:47:14 2005 I had the joy of watching you and your band on Decatur Street in front of the Cathedral, the day the Olympic Torch came through. I had just landed in New Orleans, left my stuff at the hotel and was wandering along when I saw a crowd gathered there. I asked why and was told the torch was going to come right by there. And there was a stage right smack dab in front of me, so my friend and I stayed put, met a couple of really nice nuns there, transplants from our own area of Philly. I will never forget that young guy carrying the torch, I think he had Down's Syndrome, it was so moving, we all were cheering and crying our eyes out...and then...all of this being a total surprise to us,having just arrived in New Orleans...here comes Charmaine Neville and her band...I did not know who you were, but of course knew who the Neville Brothers were. I will never forget that show you put on, and your sax player (since we have the same last name, though mine is spelled differ! ently). I got to come back to New Orleans again years later, and my friend who travelled with me was sete to go to a big medical convention she covers for her newspaper, at the convention center this coming September 2lst (2005). Of course, now that will not happen. We have been riveted to our tvs, alternating between crying, and shouting at the federal government and all the press conferences. Early on, I wondered about the French Quarter, I wondered about Mothers Restaurant, the trolley cars, I even wondered about the famous brothel on Canal Street that was the subject of so many news shows. I wondered about this sweet little nuns who loved New Orleans so much. And I wandered about you, Charmaine, and kept doing searches in your name. I then saw your interview on tv. I found it online. I am so very, very sorry. My heart breaks for you and for your families and friends and all loved ones, and for your wonderful city. It reminds me of New York, in the sense that there's a constant heartbeat to it. Different flavor, but...such a wonderful stew. I will come back to New Orleans one day when it's possible, I really want to come back. I feel helpless and powerless, I'm not wealthy, I am helping in small ways that I can from here in Delaware. I wish you health and healing and recovery from your tragedy and look forward to seeing you at Snug Harbor, where I see you were going to be playing very soon. I was really surprised when you asked me to sit in with you at Snug Harbor. I wanted to thank you for your encouragement. I've since left New Orleans, but I'll always remember your kindness. Tony, Keith from the Parish Office and Father Tony's friends from Buffalo, NY. I just loved your singing, dynamic personality and that great beat that I was able to follow in the small "cowbells" during your performance. I love music, specially your style... and you saw how I get into it. Hope to see you again soon and meet you and the members of your great band... I am going to be pastor of a huge parish community in Miramar, FL (that is just north of my stumping grounds of Miami)... and maybe, if you ever make it there, I'll make you all some nice "cuban creole cooking"! Andy Alfano <andrew_alfano@uml.edu andrew_alfano@uml.edu > Nashua , NH USA - Tue Dec 21 19:29:12 2004 Charmaine and band. Thank you so much for the wonderful birdday present that your concert was at Snug Harbor. I write about it a little at my blog www.pinkmonkeybird.blogspot.com My mother asked me "What kind of music did they play?" I told her I'd guess I'd hafta call it New Orleans R&B. But I like Charmaine's catagorization of "good" music. Your band is seeped in New Orleans and jazz and there is great comfort in your connection to the Lord. These are times when faith is required and I love how you celebrate that. Thanks for giving the gift. GB Chip <lonek@mail1.stofanet.dk> Aarhus, Very Good Denmark - Fri Jul 30 14:50:20 2004 Dear Charmaine, Over Memorial Day weekend, you very graciously invited our son, Sam Yulsman, to sit in on piano for one song during the late show at Snug Harbor. He was 13 at the time. (You also had most of the family up on stage during the early show to sing along with you on one song — great fun!) Sam did a 12-bar blues in F with you and the band, and it sounded great. So I'm writing to thank you for doing this. For all you knew, the kid was just a beginner. So it was a risk inviting him up on stage. We hope you thought it was worth taking. I'm also writing to ask for an address to which Sam can send you a heartfelt thank you note that he has written. Playing at Snug Harbor with you and the band, on the same piano that such jazz legends as Ellis Marsalis have played on, was the highlight of his budding musical career so far. And he would like to offer thanks in his own words for making it happen. So could you email us back with an address? (Fibich@mac.com) Again, many, many thanks — for an incredible performance and for making our time at Snug Harbor so very memorable. You were as gracious after the show as entertaining during the show. We love New Orleans, but your show was by far the highlight of our trip. We have had the pleasure of hearing and seeing Ella, Sarah, Diana Reeves, Aretha, and many other great singers, but you blew us away. We can't think of words that would do your voice and stage presence justice. Your band is also fabulous. Beyond fabulous. Please come to Rochester sometime to perform. I know your talent would be appreciated. If you ever do come to the area, we would love to make you and the band some N'awlins Shrimp Creole. Hearing you and your band made our trip, and enriched our lives. Thank you so much. P.S. We still think you look way to young to have grandchildren. And the evening of October 27th spilling over into the 28th was one of the basics for our love of your city. Diana was the lady you got up on stage at the Snug Harbour to 'sing' for her birthday on the 28th. We loved it all so much, we're coming back for the last week of Carnival, arriving the Thursday before Mardi Gras and returning the following Thursday. Will you guys be playing somewhere then?
