Detroit Brooks career began at and early age touring with his family which includes his world-famous sister Juanita Brooks, of “Juanita’s Gospel Express,” as well as his acclaimed father, George A. Brooks, Sr., of the famous “Masonic Kings.” Over the years he has refined his skills, studying guitar with masters Roy Montell and Gary Haulette, improvisation with Hank Mackie and composition and piano with Roger Dickerson. He has gone on to become one of the most sought after session and touring guitarists in New Orleans. A virtual chameleon of various musical styles from Traditional Banjo to Improvisational Jazz, through Rhythm and Blues, Gospel and Funk, Detroit’s laid-back demeanor masks an unforgettable talent that raises the musical level of every setting in which he plays. Detroit has also made his mark on the New Orleans music scene as an extraordinary songwriter and singer. In addition to being a regular member of the Charmaine Neville Band, Detroit has played with gospel greats the Five Blind Boys, Raymond Myles, and the Zion Harmonizers, traditional Jazz star Michael White and world famous saxophonist, Donald Harrison. |
